Bruce Goodman CO, BOCP
President, Certified Prosthetist & Certified Orthotist
Bruce is a passionate and skilled practitioner who cares deeply about improving the lives of each of his patients, who are primarily amputees.
His more than 30 years of experience with prostheses, or artificial limbs, and his perfectionist nature have enabled him to develop a system of prosthetic sockets, by meticulously crafting several transparent trial sockets to attain a perfect fit. With careful patient follow up Bruce is able to resolve pressure and comfort issues experienced by many amputees. His expertise includes the management of diabetic ulcers through the use of custom designed off-loading orthoses.
Bruce is actively Involved in patient care and well being beyond the exam room. He runs an amputee support group every 4-6 weeks on Saturdays at Progressive Orthotics in Selden, Suffolk County, Long Island, along with a physical therapist and social worker, focusing on topics such as skin care, coping with daily frustrations, bathroom and shower safety, gait training and strengthening, and understanding insurance, among others.
He frequently lectures at the Rehab Department at nursing homes on various prosthetic topics to rehabilitation experts such as physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists involved in prosthetic care to enhance their perspective.
Some of these topics are: understanding the psychology of the new amputee, prosthetic management of community ambulators with emphasis on componentry choices and safety, and skin care of the lower extremity amputee.
Bruce mentors Stony Brook University M.D. fellows in gait analysis and orthotic management of the lower extremities. He graduated New York University with a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in 1981.
